0.4.5 fixes a few problems players reported and adds some settings. The HD pack has not changed and is still HD 1.1; if you have it installed, there is nothing to download again.
What’s new
- No more red and yellow patches in the battle sky. A 0.4.4 problem on every platform: battle effects such as speed lines and flames were drawn as if they were the sky, leaving red and yellow patches across the skyline. Thanks to the player who sent a photo.
- Ending a battle animation right as it starts no longer crashes. Pressing the end key (X/B or R2) the moment an animation begins could crash; now it simply ends the animation.
- Windows: the game starts when your user name or the game folder is in Chinese. Before, it stopped with an error at once. This works on Windows 10 (version 1903 or later) and Windows 11.
- New anti-aliasing switch (Options → General). On by default; turning it off lightens the load on your graphics card, and may help if menus look garbled on some Intel graphics. Applies after restarting the game.
- With battle animations off, a miss now shows MISS. Before, an attack that missed showed nothing on the map. The map’s battle results also play faster.
- Choose the dialogue text size in the settings (Options → UI), five sizes, remembered.
- With HD on, the map unit icons can stay original (Options → General), for those who prefer the original pixel sprites.
- Android: the history button is back in dialogue. 0.4.4 lost it when the touch buttons changed; it now sits where Back usually is, turns into Back while the history is open, and into Stop while skipping.
- Windows: a crash leaves a diagnostic file, included in the problem report from Options → Report. If the game crashes, please send me the report; it makes the cause much easier to find.
Please report problems on GitHub Issues; in the game, Options → Report copies the platform info and exports a problem report.
Android chips tested
The game starts and plays on real phones with these chips (Android 12–16). Entry-level chips like the Dimensity 6100+ run at about 14 FPS; the others mostly at 30. A chip that is not listed has simply not been tested yet; reports on Issues are welcome.
- Qualcomm: Snapdragon 865/870 (Adreno 650; Galaxy Tab S7, POCO F3), 888 (Adreno 660; Galaxy S21 Ultra), 8 Gen 1 (Adreno 730; Galaxy S22, Xiaomi 12), 8 Gen 2 (Adreno 740; Xiaomi 13, Galaxy S23), 8 Gen 3 (Adreno 750; Galaxy S24 Ultra), 8 Elite (Adreno 830; Galaxy S25)
- MediaTek: Dimensity 7300 (Mali-G615; Solana Seeker), Dimensity 6100+ (Mali-G57; Galaxy A15)
- Samsung: Exynos 1380 (Mali-G68; Galaxy A35)
- Google: Tensor G2 (Mali-G710; Pixel 7), Tensor G3 (Mali-G715; Pixel 8)
If you play on a Dimensity 8200 phone, please let us know whether it runs well.
Download
Get it from the install page or from GitHub. On Android it installs over the old version and keeps your saves; on Windows, extract it over the old folder. The previous changes are in the 0.4.4 notes, and the full feature list in the 0.4.0 release notes.
