Super Robot Wars 64 Guide: Flow Chart, Secrets and Reference

Flow Chart

Stages are listed by number, with different protagonists or routes shown side by side. Stage numbers are calculated from the connections in the game’s scripts, using the most common number across routes. Numbers may vary by a few stages depending on your route; the first note on each card explains the difference.

This guide is based on the project’s analysis of the game’s scripts and code, with reference to the flow chart, secrets and other information on Akurasu Wiki’s Super Robot Wars 64 pages. Thanks to Akurasu’s writers and editors for maintaining this material over the years. Badges mark differences and information not covered there.

Protagonist and Real/Super

  • Choose one of four protagonists at the start: Ark and Selain are Real, Brad and Manami are Super; the two sides merge from stage 7 “Blade of Anguish”, though some stages and recruits still differ by side
  • Each protagonist has a dedicated rival; recruiting them takes conditions built up from the early game; see the hidden element “Protagonist-specific”
  • Real goes straight from “Destiny Astray” to “Shock at Victoria”, while Super plays one extra stage, “Town of Betrayal”; from then on Real is 1 stage behind Super in numbering

Three major branches

  • The choice at the end of “Operation Daybreak” (Super stage 20, Real stage 19) decides between the OZ route and the Independence Army route; once you join OZ there's no going back
  • On the Independence Army route, meeting the conditions in “The Battle of Ryozanpaku” switches you to the Complete Pacifism route; the Complete Pacifism route chooses again in “Return to the Battlefield”: following Treize merges into the second half of OZ from “Prelude to Ruin”, fighting alone merges into the second half of the Independence Army route from “Galactic Empire Vanguard Fleet”
  • At the end of “Nightmare, Once More” / “A Nightmare with No Waking”, choose to go to Muge space or stay in the Earth Sphere; while the team is split, the other group's members temporarily can't deploy (they stay in the team), and from “Terror! Dark Axis Activates! (Part 1)” both sides reunite for the final chapter

Tips

  • Conditions for recruiting, defending a base or breaking through within a time limit often span several stages and cannot be fixed after failing; save to a separate slot before key stages
  • Card stage numbers are worked out route by route from the ROM's stage-jump script, taking the most common across all paths; Real, Complete Pacifism → fighting alone, the Ark / Brad exclusive side branches, and the Cyber Beast Force Base and Desperate Breakthrough branches all shift the numbers; the first note on each card gives the actual stage number in each caseDiffers from Akurasu
  • Kill-count conditions (Ginrei, Silky, Kurtz, etc.) each have a fixed check point (stage start, stage end or a specific event); the cards give the timing, so build up kills in advance
  • Turn numbers always refer to the turn shown on screen
  • This port's “Gameplay adjustments” corrections are on by default; skill and battle values follow the “this port's default” noted on the data pages

Secrets and route splits

  • Ciela + Gran-Garan / Elle + Goraon

Opening two-way choice: “Go to Ciela” gets Ciela and the Gran-Garan, “Go to Elle” gets Elle and the Goraon. The choice decides which map you fight on in this stage; the enemy lineup is the same. The side you didn't pick: on the Independence Army route it appears as an ally midway through “The Call of Space” and leaves at the end of that stage; on the Complete Pacifism route it joins at the start of “Spreading Malice” and leaves at the end of “Purification”; on the OZ route it appears in “Humanity's Victory, and Then... (Part 1)” and leaves at the end of that stageDiffers from Akurasu

  • Gyukenki's revenge (Chobham Armor)

If Gyugaki was destroyed in the previous stage, Gyukenki comes for revenge with two Mecha Boryuki after all enemies are destroyed; shoot down Gyukenki to get a Chobham Armor. Otherwise these reinforcements don't appearNot on Akurasu

Secrets and route splits

  • Lera branch: Those Eyes Reflect No Future

Opening three-way choice (Real only): “Talk with Lera” / “Try to get Lera off the ship” / “Ignore her”. Together with the opening choice in Operation Daybreak, it decides the Lera branch: with either of the first two, just choose “Say hello to Lera” there; with “Ignore her”, you must answer correctly once more thereDiffers from Akurasu

  • Ehrlich + Norouz

This three-way choice indirectly affects Ehrlich via the Lera branch: the persuade in “Earth Sphere in Chaos” on the Independence Army route requires the Lera branch to be active. So options 1 and 2 both work; if you picked “Ignore her,” make up for it in Operation DaybreakDiffers from Akurasu

Secrets and route splits

  • Operation Daybreak: OZ or Independence Army

Two-way choice at the end of the stage: “Join OZ and work to restore order” enters the OZ route (next stage “A New Path”); “We cannot accept what OZ has done” enters the Independence Army route (next stage “Farewell, Warrior”)

  • Lera branch: Those Eyes Reflect No Future

At the start (Real only), pick “Say hello to Lera”: if you picked one of the first two options in Ideals, Shattered you go straight into the Lera branch; if you picked “Ignore her” you are asked again, and you enter it only if Ark picks “I was wrong last time” or Selain picks “That’s true, but...”. Picking “Leave her be” skips it. The Lera branch affects all three routes: on the Independence Army route you play “Those Eyes Reflect No Future” after “Mars and Marg” and can recruit Ehrlich; on the Complete Pacifism route Lera leaves in “Purification”; on the OZ route Lera dies in “Humanity's Victory, and Then... Secrets and route splits

  • The Moon Is Hell!: holding the base

Get your flagship into the base's Green Area first; or wipe out the Muge forces first (after the first wipe-out Shapiro appears around the base with reinforcements, which must also be wiped out), then the Yellow forces → Gato joins, next stage “Where Ambition Leads”. It fails only if Scirocco or Bask himself enters the base first → next stage “The Man Who Could Not Become God”; other Yellow units entering the base don't countDiffers from Akurasu

  • Gato + GP02A Physalis

Defending the base gets you Gato + the GP02A Physalis (3 upgrade levels) at the end of the stage. Gato later leaves with the GP02A: if you choose “We shouldn't cooperate with Haman” at the start of “Showdown! Face-Off with Emperor Zuul! Two-way choice at the end of the stage: “Side with Treize” → “Fierce Fighting in Space” (later merging into the second half of OZ at “Prelude to Ruin”); “Fight on our own” → “The Galactic Empire's Threat” (later merging into the second half of the Independence Army at “Galactic Empire Vanguard Fleet”)

  • Takeru leaves the Cosmo Crusher and switches to the Gaia
  • Manami's scenario: if Aisha hasn't joined, the switch to the Sweemurg S comes at the startNot on Akurasu
  • Brad's scenario: Earthgain → Super Earthgain (end of stage, if “Time to Settle It” wasn't reached)

Parts (dropped by defeated units)

  • Propellant Tank ← Gates
  • Repair Kit ← Rosamia (Can be persuaded by Kamille (no drop if persuaded))
  • Magnetic Coating ← Bask
  • Chobham Armor ← Kurtz (Brad's scenario only)
  • Chobham Armor ← Ehrlich (Ark's scenario only)

Secrets and route splits

  • Ark / Brad exclusive side branch

Ark's scenario: meet Ehrlich's conditions and choose option 2 “I don’t know... I don’t know, but...” at the end of the stage → “Together from Here On”; Brad's scenario: meet Kurtz's conditions to go automatically to “Time to Settle It”; otherwise → “Mars and Marg”. Both side branches return to “Mars and Marg” afterwards

  • Kurtz + Virose (including Super Earthgain)

Brad's scenario: Kurtz appears at the start of turn 4 or when the enemy is wiped out. In this stage Brad must personally shoot down Kurtz, and this counts toward the “two” — one more in any earlier stage is enough. If the conditions are met, the end of the stage leads automatically into “Time to Settle It” with no choice for Brad; the 100 kills are checked in “Time to Settle It”. If not, he switches to the Super Earthgain at the end of this stageDiffers from Akurasu

  • Ehrlich + Norouz

Ark's scenario: Ehrlich appears at the start of turn 4 or when the enemy force is wiped out. The Persuade option only appears if the Lera branch is active (option 1/2 in “Ideals, Shattered” and greeting Lera in “Operation Daybreak”; those who chose “Ignore her” must make up for it in Operation Daybreak). After persuading him, choose option 2 in the end-of-stage two-way choice → “Together from Here On”; option 1 loses him permanentlyDiffers from Akurasu

  • Rosamia

Rosamia and Gates appear when Baren is destroyed. Shoot down Gates first, then persuade Rosamia with Kamille (requires step 1 in “Defense of Sweetwater”); persuading while Gates is on the map gives only dialogue, and you can't persuade again this stage. On success she joins on the spot (pilot only)Differs from Akurasu

  • Kyral + Mandala Gundam

Shoot down Kyral with Domon (he appears on the enemy phase of the 4th turn after Baren is destroyed) → he appears as an ally in “Terror! Dark Axis Activates! (Part 1)” and joins only if he is still on the map when the last enemy wave is wiped outDiffers from Akurasu

  • Story-unlocked finishers and combination attacks

Double Burning Finger needs no story unlock: combination attacks are checked fresh every time, so once Allenby is recruited it's usable whenever the Burning Gundam and Noble Gundam are adjacent with enough Will and ENDiffers from AkurasuNot verified in game
